WHY LINUX?

"Here at JPMorganChase we use Linux for a variety of mission critical functions. When you have over 1.5 billion (USD) flowing over your system every evening in trades, you can't afford to crash using windows, so we use Linux. As far as the management interface, the GUI on Linux is FAR superior than Windows.

Let's see... over 4600 systems using Linux, Vs. 2 running Windows for non-mission critical functions. Of course Microsoft will scream to the media... 'See.. JPMorgan uses Windows' Give me a break... NEXT! "

Right and wrong Reasons for move to Linux

I want a Windows-free home/business! WRONG Very good, but wrong as only reason! Please consider any of another reasons.
Linux is free, as free beer! WRONG There is no such thing! If your IT knowledge is limited to Microsoft Windows you have to spend much time for learning or you have to pay service charge.
it's free (as in freedom) RIGHT ``Free software'' is a matter of liberty, not price. Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software.
no licence hassles RIGHT You have broken Microsoft's licensing agreement by installing its software on more than one computer and your conscience is bothering you ...
no vendor lock-in RIGHT There are many Linux distributions such as Debian, Red Hat, Novell, Mandrake, Linspire, Xandros, Lycoris, Mepis...... or even you may make your own Linux distribution.
you have old (but supported) hardware but still want a modern OS RIGHT Using Microsoft products is expensive (both in terms of the initial investment and the premature need to upgrade one's hardware).
inherent security: no viruses, trojans, spyware, backdoors, autodialers RIGHT You are tired of going to Microsoft's website on a daily basis to make sure your system updates are current in order to be "safe" from crackers ...

You have grown weary of downloading the latest virus definitions to make sure your system doesn't fall victim to some new attack ...
true multiuser, multitasking RIGHT
a stable system RIGHT Normally, linux is not crash prone and it doesn't just behave differently all of a sudden
because it puts you in control RIGHT You think you know better than Bill Gates how you want your computer to look, feel, and run ...
